About Ellen Eats In

Ellen Eats In is where restaurant meals, travel, food memories, and everyday cravings find their way back into my kitchen.

Ellen Olson, Founder, Ellen Eats In

I’m a home cook who loves a great restaurant almost as much as I love figuring out how to recreate something I can’t stop thinking about.

I’ve been cooking and baking since I was a kid, but I’ve never been interested in making things complicated just for the sake of it. I want dinner to be really good, but I also want it to work for real life. Sometimes that means spending a Sunday making a slow-braised ragù. Sometimes it means getting something great on the table on a Tuesday night.

I grew up in Southern California and now live in Charlotte, North Carolina, with my husband, son, and our Cavapoo, Willow. Food has always been tied to memories, family, travel, and the places I’ve lived, and all of that finds its way into what I cook.

Some recipes here start with something I’ve eaten out and can’t stop thinking about. Others come from a craving, something nostalgic, or simply wanting a really good dinner at home.

By day, I work in marketing. I’m not a chef. I just genuinely love to cook, bake, eat, and experiment. And thanks to my wine education through the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), I know a thing or two about wine, too.

Ellen Eats In is where I share what actually comes out of my kitchen: recipes I make for my family and friends, food inspired by the places and things I love, and plenty of ideas for making something really good at home.
